Do you have plans for your weekend? We’ve got a hot date of online house hunting. 😉 My husband is so excited… Just kidding. He does not like the planning or searching phase of any project or change we make in our life. He just likes seeing the results. Whereas, I LOVE the planning portion. So, I’m ecstatic we’re looking for our house. That’s probably why mood boards and searching for design elements like this are totally my thing.
If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that yesterday, my best friend (and basically my kids second mom) came with us to Ikea! It was the first time any of us had been there before. We don’t have one nearby so we had to drive to Maryland, an hour and 40 minutes away to the nearest one. It was awesome! (Except the carts… what on Earth is wrong with their carts? They legit push sideways the whole time. It was incredibly irritating.) On stories I walk you around the store with us and show some cute things we found for all different styles of homes!
I also went online and did a more extensive search to create a mood board of items they sell that have a vintage-y or cottage-y vibe to them. I tag them all in this post as well so you can easily navigate to them if you see something you like! (I am not getting paid for sharing these items with you, I genuinely love these items.)
I didn’t get all of the pieces I added on the board (although, I probably will get them eventually). What I did pick up was 2 of the cute navy pinstripe pillow cover (number 2), the duvet cover for the kids beds for their shared “big kid” room (number 8) and down comforters I have been eyeing for awhile for their beds (pictured above). The softest pillow cover I have ever felt (pictured above) for our room when I transition our bed to winter and the last thing was the cute little watering can (number 12).
The chairs (number 1 and number 14) fit with the classic “cottage” vibe. The white chair has the rolled arms that boasts a traditional feel and the wicker is also a staple in cottage homes. I didn’t have the opportunity to see them in person so I can’t attest to the comfort they provide but the price points are decent compared to other furniture pieces of similar style. The reviews are also really good.
The pillows (number 2 and number 5) have a warm, inviting style that aligns with cottage living. The navy pinstripes are a pattern that won’t go out of style and can be paired with other patterns and colors when you’re craving a change without starting completely over. The vintage rug pillow is a fun addition that can pull in colors from other areas of the room but is not very comfortable and the price is a little steep for the pillow cover alone.. I like it so much though I regret not bringing it home with me.
If you aren’t one with a green thumb (for now, wait until I convert you) Ikea’s plants (number 3, 4, 13) look incredibly realistic and are also a really affordable way to add some greenery into your decor.
The rug (number 7) was a very high pile, chunky knit rug and would add so much warmth to the room. It would also be a really good rug to layer under another one.
I LOVED the brass pendant lights (number 9). They are a modern take on an old style and I think it would blend some modern touches beautifully into a vintage inspired space.
The picture frames come in a set of two for a great price. (number 6) They have a gorgeous distressed metal finish that would look so sweet with some family photos or floral prints in them.
Lastly, the linen drapes (number 11) were a fantastic price point for draperies and linen has such a warming effect in a space. I have recently been loving adding the linen texture into spaces.
So there you have it! Some of my favorite vintage/cottage-y finds from Ikea! Most of Ikea’s products have a very modern feel to them but when you blend them into a cozy cottage space, they add a great contrast. If you guys enjoyed this post please let me know! I’d love to hear your feedback. And if you’d like to see some other mood boards like this from other stores, I could do that too!
I hope ya’ll have a great weekend and keep a look out for my posts next week!
Until next time,
