It’s FRIDAY FRIDAY!!
Ya’ll I cannot wait for this weekend because that means we’re closer to TUESDAY. Why am I excited for Tuesday you ask? Well, it’s because our house inspection day! I am so excited & scared. (Understandably so, since it’s 100 year old house, anything could be wrong.) While we are there we are going to start talking renovations! And the first room we are planning on doing.. Drumroll please…… is…….
I mean, you saw that coming, right? As much cooking, crafts, projects, etc. as we do, I want us to love the space we’re spending so much time in. As it is, the kitchen is huge for a farmhouse of this age (probably had renovations done at some-point.) It’s cabinets are solid and the tile is in great shape. So the bones are good. It’s mainly cosmetic and we’re going to try to do it on a budget!
It’s actually been super fun going back and forth with Kyle about the design plan. He’s had so much input, which has pleasantly surprised me! He also wants to do most of the work ourselves (to save money, develop skills, & to say we did it ourselves. ha!) SO, onto the inspiration pictures!
Alright, first part of my design process is inspiration. Obviously, I’m always looking for design inspiration, it’s everywhere. In particular though, I love creating boards on Pinterest and then when I am ready to start my design I look back through and look for things that “repeat.” As you scroll, you’ll see what I’m talking about. Look at the similarities. Light, bright, natural wood, open shelves, texture, copper, gold.
Natural wood- I loveeeee this wood tone Liz Marie came up with from Liz Marie Blog. It’s not too orange, not too trendy, gray. It’s just right. I would love this color flooring throughout the whole house, but that’s not in the plans right now. So, I’ll have to find other ways to incorporate this tone in the kitchen now. I already have two very good ideas. 😉
Black and white Deco Tile Floor- As I mentioned before, the tile in the kitchen is in great shape, I don’t want the stress of ripping it up right now so my plan is to paint it. 🙂 There’s so many cute stencils online (like this one!)
Copper- I loveee some copper pieces. I also really like the mixed metals trend so I’m currently trying to decide which metals I am going to choose for our kitchen! I can guarantee copper will be making an appearance.
White shaker cabinets- And of course, White white white. I just can’t stay away from the clean look white cabinets give. I do think, I will select a warmer tone of white rather than a blue tone white. I’m going for cozy, home, not hospital. Also, the cabinets are in really good shape so Kyle is going to build new doors, sand down the existing base and paint them a new color.
Now that I have shared my inspiration ideas with you. I will show you my design board! This is a great way to see all your finishes together to see if you like them combined. It’s especially helpful for me when looking for lighting. Lighting is sometimes tricky for me to find fixtures that I like. You can also plug in rug choices. It’s much easier to delete a photo than to return a rug. 😉
This is where we are at currently! The best part will be seeing it done and seeing how it transforms from the design board to the real thing! Hang around and you’ll be sure to see the finished product and some more DIY since we are doing it ourselves. 🙂
Until next time,
